India vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane became father on Saturday after his wife Radhika Dhopavkar gave birth to a baby girl. Rahane woke up to the heartwarming news in Visakhapatnam wherein he is playing the first Test against South Africa.

Ajinkya Rahane married his childhood friend Radhika in 2014. The two had met first in school and remained friends for quite some time before their parents met and arranged their marriage.

Rahane’s fomer Inida teammate Harbhajan Singh took to social media to congratulate the new father. “Congratulations new daddy in town @ajinkyarahane88 hope Mum and lil princess ?? are doing well.. fun part of life starts now ajju. #fatherhood,” Harbhajan wrote.

Notably, Rahane is the latest Indian cricketer who has become father to a baby girl. The likes of MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh himself, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma and Hanuma Vihari are among the few who have a girl child.

Ajinkay Rahane is currently with Team India who have resumed Day 4 action of the first Test of a 3-match series against India. Rahane returned to form during the 2-match Test series against West Indies after the World Cup. While the Mumbai batsman did not make the World Cup squad, his return to form has come at the right time as India are hoping to dominate the inaugural edition of World Test Championships.

Notably, Radhika had taken to social media last week to post a photo of herself with a baby bump with an emotional message.

“Have more of milk and milk products. Don’t have that much coffee. And are you taking the supplements you need?,” Radhika wrote.

“:Being pregnant means being ready for extra care and extra attention from just about everyone. And the flood of information can only make things confusing. I have found it helpful to stick to the basics and keep track of my daily nutrient intake. Among all nutrients, I got to know how adequate iodine is essential for an expecting mother as well as the baby since first 1000 days of life are considered to be the critical period for Brain development for which Iodine is an essential nutrient… Requesting all mothers @momspresso to pledge their support in raising awareness for #MissingI.”

Ajinkya Rahane did not trouble the scorers much in the first innings of the ongoing Test. After scoring 271 runs at an average of 90.33 in West Indies, Rahane will be keen on getting some big scores in the ongoing Test. He will be required to play a key role in India’s second innings as the hosts are looking to seal a 100-run first innings lead in Vizag.
