    Novak Djokovic clinches Japan Open title, crushes Australia’s John Millman in straight sets
    • World no.1 Novak Djokovic, who had earlier pulled out of the US Open citing shoulder injury, made a great comeback by winning the Japan Open title. 
    • Djokovic crushed his opponent, Australian qualifier John Millman 6-3, 6-2 in straight sets on October 6, 2019 at the Ariake Colosseum at Tokyo.
    • This was Djokovic’s first-ever Japanese tournament and he got through it without losing a single set. 
    • The win marks Novak Djokovic’s tenth win in a tournament main draw debut in his entire tennis career, which includes 16 Grand Slam wins. 

    Waryam Singh, former PMC Bank Chairman arrested
    • Waryam Singh, the former Chairman of PMC Bank has been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai Police. The arrest was made in connection with the irregularities detected in the cooperative bank’s functioning. 
    • Waryam Singh’s arrest is the fourth arrest made in the case. Prior to that, PMC Bank’s former Managing Director, Joy Thomas was remanded to police custody till October 17. 
    • The RBI was recently informed about an alleged Rs 4,355 crore worth scam at the PMC bank after the top bank restricted its services such as loan lending and also the withdrawal limit. 
    • The police had previously arrested the directors of the Housing Development and Infrastructure (HDIL), Rakesh Wadhawan and his son Sarang, and his son in relation with the scam. They will be in police custody till October 9.

    Home Minister Rajnath Singh will receive first Rafale fighter aircraft
    • Home Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to participate in the handing over ceremony of the first Rafale fighter jet by France to India on October 8, 2019. The Home Minister will also perform the Shastra pooja on the occasion and fly a sortie on the fighter aircraft. 
    • The Home Minister who will leave from New Delhi on October 7 for a two-day visit to France will also meet French President Emmanuel Macron and hold the annual defence dialogue with the French Minister of Armed Forces, Florence Parly. 
    • Rajnath Singh will address the CEOs of the French Defence industry on October 9, during which he is expected to urge them to participate in the ‘Make in India’ initiative. 
     
    Nitish Kumar re-elected as JD(U) president unopposed 
    • Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was re-elected unopposed as the President of JD(U) for another term on October 6, 2019. 
    • Nitish Kumar was the only candidate for the post and he was officially declared as the party’s president after the time for withdrawal of nominations ended on October 6. 
    • Nitish Kumar, the undisputed leader of JD(U), will yet again lead his party during the upcoming state assembly by-polls and the state assembly elections in 2020. 

    No nuclear talks with US, unless it stops its hostile policies: North Korea
    • North Korea stated on October 6, 2019 that it does not want to continue nuclear talks with the United States unless it takes steps to end hostilities. The announcement comes a day after the negotiations between the two nations broke down in Sweden. 
    • In a historic first, US President Donald Trump had met North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in February 2019. However, the progress expected to be made with the meeting turned stale in the following months and North Korea continued its missile tests, after briefly stopping them. 
    • The Sunday’s negotiations came after North Korea yet again sea-launched a ballistic missile on October 2. The North, however, walked away from the talks, saying that it was disappointed with the lack of creative solutions provided by the US. 
    • North Korea said that it has no desire to hold negotiations such as this one with the US unless it takes practical measures to end its hostile policies. The US, however, called the talks ‘good discussions’.
