The battle of 1670
Tanaji Malusare led a night climb up the fort's steep side and took Kondhana back. He died in the battle. The story is told with the line "Gad aala, pan sinha gela": the fort is won, but the lion is lost. The fort has been called Sinhagad, the lion's fort, ever since.
